holy day

today is a day of worship that kicks off the holiest time of year. i am sure most people know as to what i am referring to. this is the season that brings in more church goers than christmas. if you don't know what religious day today is, then you must not be a fan of college football & football in general. due to lack of tickets or team around to root for, i had to watch today's sermon from the comfort of my little cottage. i unfortunately don't have dish or cable so my game viewing time is limited (usually to nbc/cbs/& abc). as with any good church goer i made several observations during today's sermons from the 2 games i was able to partake of (both being pretty boring, but at least the georgia vs osu game wasn't a complete blow out). here is my list of observations that i came across today:

1. the use of the mute button when there's no plays going on the field. even a pastor knows when to give it a rest.

2. snacks are a necessity. diet soda & chips are a great sacrament, but you (mainly me) need more goodies than just that.

3. espn is the king james bible for college football. i need to get the king james, and stop using the niv updated version (nbc/cbs/abc).

4. a nursery or some place to keep the kids occupied is a must, in order to be able to get the fullness of the sermon.

(just a side note, there is no religious overtones for the next few observations)

5. cutting the cameras to somewhere else on the fields when players start to squabble is a no no. we need to see the players in action at all times.

6. giving the cheerleaders more camera time is a must. they are a very important part of the team, and need much more face time than the stations giving them right now. the only exception to this rule is the male cheerleaders, and that is because they the ones who either got cut from the team or couldn't make through the tryout process. no one (or most people) wants to see people that can't cut it in the real leagues ( just look at arena football & the wnba).

7. a real h.d. tv is a must. even with the stupid converter box, i still spent quite a bit of time adjusting the antenna to get the picture to work properly.

8. even a montage of great college football clips can't make the dave matthews sound good. they are just awful.

9. being there live & tailgating is night and day from sitting at home (in most cases) and watching the games on t.v.

10. final observation from today's sermon..... it doesn't have to due with football, but the fall lineup of shows on abc look really really really dumb. sorry if your a fan of the fall lineup, but the promos for the shows i saw today made me cringe.

with all this being said, i think there is really only one appropriate response to end this post or sermon which ever you feel it is. amen

  2. yes, i do hold the wnba in the same group as arena football. although the wnba players are better athletes, hardly anyone is watching. sorry steph, you did make a noble plea on their behalf.

  3. LOL.....this post is so my husband's exact sentiments. I have been getting a countdown to the holy day from him for the last 2 months. We do have cable and HDTV and all that stuff but since his team is Nebraska they don't have many games we are able to attend so we found a local group that has a restaurant we go to every week and it is a nice substitute for the actual game since there are usually 200-300 people there. Almost like tailgating. :-)
